The grounding of the dry cargo vessel CFL Performer off the UK coast a year ago was significant because none of the officers on board had been trained in the use of ECDIS, the primary means of navigation.rnCFL Performer ran aground 29 minutes after the officer of the watch adjusted the vessel's course to follow a passage plan on the ECDIS. The officer took this decision despite the fact that the charted depth of Haisborough Sand, over which the ship was to cross, was less than CFL Performer's draught. Because of a lack of training, features of the ECDIS that could have prevented the accident were not utilised.
