In its heyday, Swan Hunter shipyard on the River Tyne helped make the UK the world's biggest shipbuilder; now the industry is a shadow of that golden age and Swan Hunter's owner has sold up. But its website still boasts of the company's strategy "to invest in the latest equipment and facilities". Yet much of it has been sold to Bharati Shipyard in India; the last of its cranes were shipped out earlier this month. The site reminds the Captain of Shelley's sonnet Ozymandias, which describes a broken statue and its warning to passers-by: "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
