Chilean president Michelle Bachelet has come a long way since taking office in 2006. The president's approval recently topped 60% - a reward for her handling of the economic crisis. "The Bachelet administration was saved by her finance minister Andres Velasco," one foreign business executive told Fairplay. Velasco, a charismatic Harvard professor, "saved in the good times" by creating two sovereign wealth funds to invest some of Chile's intake from copper when that commodity's price was peaking.
