ICTSI chairman Enrique Razon Jr has unveiled new projects, including a hub port in Brunei. The kingdom's Economic Development Board (BEDB) is not expected to complete a new 800,000teu terminal at Brunei's only deepwater port, Muara, before 2012. The operator has agreed to help BEDB to design, construct and develop the terminal. The port is destined to be a manufacturing complex for major industries, including an aluminium smelter and an export processing zone for halal food. According to Jose Manuel de Jesus, ICTSI's vice-president for business development, the main growth areas for the new port will come from economic development in Brunei itself and burgeoning trade in the surrounding region, particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
