Insurance pool claims for 2008 are expected to be less than 2007, according to Ian Gooch, new CEO of the London P&l Club. Gooch told Fairplay that 2006 and 2007 had 'taken their toll' on the London Club and other P&l dubs: "Pool claims were in excess of $7M and increased substantially in 2006, this was repeated in 2007, and the industry was seriously affected by the massive daims of those years. The signs... for 2008 suggest they may be significantly less at a pooling level." He said underwriters are under pressure to perform and are now taking a more disdplined approach to risk selection.
