'What's going on at Teekay?'has been a persistently murmured question in shipping circles during recent months. Curiosity was understandable. As other competitors filed first quarter results, Teekay Corporation, one of the largest public shipping entities in the world, had yet to even report year-end 2008 figures, after being waylaid by last year's restatement travails. Teekay's bottom line finally emerged last week.The numbers-net losses of $714M for 4Q08 and $765M for full-year 2008 - were deceptively ugly. Operating results were healthy and losses stemmed from non-cash, mark-to-market accounting of interest rate swaps and a goodwill write-down.
