Chartering activity gained momentum last week amid growing evidence that the container markets have bottomed. With the onset of the summer peak season, some carriers and alliances are taking heart to bolster up service capacity in certain trade lanes. Still, the picture is by no means homogenous and some routes continue to see sailings and weekly slot capacities axed.rnMaersk and CMA CGM proved to be the dominant charterers last week, fixing and extending a number of 1,000- 1,700teu vessels, and there were also some signs of life in the larger sectors again.
