The rally in bulk shipping has been attributed to China's timely and decisive push to lift the economy from the doldrums of recession.rn"China acted most decisively, switching from restrictive to expansionary since autumn last year," Matthias Umlauf, senior economist at HSH Nordbank Singapore branch pointed out at the Lloyd's List Handysize & Handymax Markets 2009 Singapore conference.rnThe fiscal expansion was strongly supported by the credit surge and brisk administrative processes, he noted. Combined with a powerful combination of thawing of frozen trade credit, refurbishing empty stocks and infrastructure spending, the bulk markets began rallying late last year and gathered strength in spring, Umlauf said.
