Shipping companies are watching with concern major changes proposed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) to how companies should deal with leases and charters in their accounts. The impact of the changes on accounts could be significant.rn"The most significant change in the proposals is the removal of the distinction between finance leases and operating leases. It is important to note that the IASB proposals may refer to leases, but the definition of a lease also includes bareboat charters and timecharters," said Richard Greiner, a partner with the London-based accountan-rncy and shipping consultancy firm Moore Stephens.
