Mitsul Osk Lines (MOL), one of Japan's three major operators, acted swiftly to revise its fleet expansion programme. The reduction in capacity affected every sector of the company, and the April 2009 plan for the coming year tried to match the fleet with anticipated demand. The reduction included returning chartered vessels to owners and scrapping, but MOL told Fairplay there had been no newbuilding cancellations and none are expected. Several new orders have been postponed, with agreement by the yards.
