Demand for container feeder ships has evaporated in recent weeks despite much talk about an impending earlier recovery for smaller charter ships. Asian operators were quite active in the smaller classes this spring, but the number of fixtures of sub-1,000teu types per week has dropped to less than a handful, according to broker reports from Hamburg, Copenhagen and London.rnIn Europe and the Med, activity is few and far between and "what is concluded is only on trip basis or very short term charters," advised one broker. "The market has been quiet on the whole with some charterers taking this opportunity to delay start dates with the hope of getting the ideal tonnage combinations," noted a second.
