Brazil's sporting bonanza, a result of the country having been awarded both the 2014 football World Cup and the 2016 Olympics (hosted by Rio de Janeiro), will also mean a temporary halt to a historic feud between tourist operators. Hostilities between hoteliers and cruise operators have been set aside by the realisation that there will be a shortage of accommodation for the two sporting events. According to Dado Nascimento, commercial director of Nascimento Turismo - agents for Royal Caribbean Cruises and Celebrity in Brazil - hoteliers' traditional animosity towards the cruise industry disappeared after they realised, he said, that "a short-term increase in visitor beds is needed, not a long-term one" for the two events.
