The market in Freight Forward Agreements is at a tipping point that will see its shape and tenor change for good. That change might also see the remaining sceptics finally drop their objections to the controversial product.rnCertainly delegates to the recent Freight Derivatives 2009 conference in London were like-minded: FFAs will most likely move onto a central exchange, traded lot sizes should decrease further to broaden participation and regulation will hastenrnthe move towards a completely cleared market.In principle these moves seem logical and desirable - but they have already proved divisive. At least four brokers already offer their own trading screens but the concept of a central exchange remains a touchy subject for the challenge it poses to established business models.
