The olympic Games in Beijing this August could mark the launch of China's cruise sector, which has been sluggish so far despite the country's booming middle class. Cruise revenues failed to reach $250M in 2006; there are few dedicated cruise terminals and most vessels stay only a short time in port. Construction of new cruise facilities has begun in earnest. Shanghai, the most popular destination, is investing $260M in a new city centre terminal able to berth three vessels at the same time. It is not expected to open until the end of the year.
