Apollo paid more than $1Bn to acquire Regent's operating company from Carlson and the three ship-owning companies (for the Seven Seas Navigator, Mariner, and Voyager) from joint venture partners Carlson and Vlasov. Carlson had two reasons to divest. Regent president Mark Conroy told fairplay: 1. The brand's business was on the upswing and Carlson was in position to pocket healthy profits. 2. Look at capital-expenditure priorities: Carlson owns significant interests in hotels, travel agencies and restaurants that demanded new investments, while its cruise line needed a newbuilding ship.
