Fixing activity is on the increase again after the recent slide in container ship charter rates, with more lines starting to seize opportunities in the 1,000-1,700teu sectors. But the market has still not gained enough momentum for rates to reverse into positive territory. Hamburg Contex panel brokers saw average valuations drop off further across the board as they downgraded their overall index from 969 to 956 points last week. Average 12-month period rates for CV1,100 types were seen as coming down from $ 12,800 to $12,609 a day, with a number of ships in prompt or even spot positions in the Far East weighing on the market. Evaluations of 12-month periods for B170 types were corrected down from $ 17,692 to $ 17,500 a day while geared 2,500teu types were pushed down from $24,956 to $24,606 a day.
