Waiting times are back. The curse of the dry bulk market, which always seems to push rates into the stratosphere, has arrived in Brazil. Still leading the delay sweepstakes are the northeastern port of Ponta da Madeira and Sepetiba, also known as Itaguai (pictured above), which is the port with the longest waits for berthing. Delays are even worse than last week, following another invasion of the key Carajas/Ponta da Madeira rail link by 1,200 indigenous peoples and members of the Movement Without Land. Ships agents in the nearby city of Sao Luis said iron ore vessels were waiting earlier this week for up to 17 days for a berth, whereas Sepetiba had increased to a wait of 8-10 days.
