The city of Newcastle upon Tyne has a proud maritime heritage, yet it's not that easy to find. Fairplay's visit last week coincided with light snow and most people were preoccupied with buying Christmas presents. Set 200m from the River Tyne is a group of centuries-old buildings situated around a courtyard. These are known as Trinity House and are part of England's maritime heritage, but they are only open to the public on one day a year -Heritage Day, in September. No wonder the city's young people have lost touch with the sea.
