The consortium building the world's largest offshore wind farm in the Thames estuary has been forced to move it after shipping operators protested that its proposed siting made collisions more likely. Operators are particularly worried about recent research indicating a degradation of radar signals in the vicinity of wind turbines, which could have serious safety consequences for shipping, especially in conditions of poor visibility.
