Cast your mind back two decades, to October 1987 -when stock markets were plummeting but no one really knew why. Hong Kong was down 45%, followed closely by Australia; Spain and the UK dropped by more than 25%; the US and Canada fell 22%. Computer technology was then unable to process the orders flooding through the system. It was another world.rnFairplay's 29 October 1987 issue also reported news about shipbuilders. Japanese yards were rethinking their strategy to qualify for aid under the transport ministry's rationalisation plans: several names were swept into history while others were merged into larger groups. In South Korea, a wave of industrial unrest seemed to have knocked yards off balance. They were forced to exchange equipment in short supply so ships could be built.
