The wave of private investment washing over US port contracts over the past year begs a key question: what role will such capital play in averting the predicted post-2010 congestion crunch?rnPrivate equity's port potential was highlighted during a symposium headed by the US Maritime Administration in Manhattan on 9 November. Near-term congestion fears have eased on throughput declines from a weakening US economy, while global credit woes have curbed the pace of private port transactions.
