International Container Terminal Services Inc of the Philippines took over management of Guayaquil's port on 1 August. ICTSI will invest $80M in equipment and infrastructure in the first year of the two-decade contract, and $170M in the first three years.rnIt engineered the takeover through its Ecuadorean subsidiary Contecon, whose general manager Luis Cao tells Fairplay: "Immediate improvements include strengthening the existing piles and customising the container yard.rn"We are in the process of calling the tender before year-end for the construction of a new $23M, 185m berth, which should begin early 2008," he adds.
