It has taken some time for the European Commission to 'discover' a fluid asset - inland waterways crisscrossing Europe - but the EC has now proposed a ?4Bn ($4.8Bn) budget to support barging. Inspired by fresh water nymphs of Greek mythology, the programme is called Navigation & Inland Waterway Action and Development in Europe (Naiades).
