Nineteen newbuildings have entered the pipeline since Fairplay predicted last year that the Jones Act sector was 'on the brink' of new orders. And more are inevitable. Overseas Shipholding (OSG) and building partner Aker Philadelphia Shipyard have taken the lead, with 10 product tankers due for delivery by 2010, of 46,000dwt, with a joint capacity of 338,000 barrels. The deal has an option for two more ships. OSG's CEO Morten Arntzen has publicly stated that even more could ultimately be built.
