A growth rate of just 4.3% in 2005 has caused Malaysian ports to reassess their grand ambition of closing in on dominant Singapore. A slowdown in the growth of transhipment cargo affected container volumes, limiting the aggregate volume at Malaysian ports to 12M TEU. But much stronger growth is predicted for 2006, the ports told Fairplay, so 2005's throughput could be just a glitch.
