The Argentine economy has not made an auspicious start to 2006. The country was still coming to terms with the impact of the severe drought hitting cereal farmers, resulting in a 10M-tonne reduction on last year's 84M tonnes total output. Then, on 15 February, a further blow was dealt to trade when Argentina's animal health service Senasa announced an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease affecting 70 cattle in a ranch in the Corrientes province.
