Singapore has set itself at odds with the European Commission by announcing that it is issuing block exemption orders to liner conferences. The Competition Commission of Singapore said it will recommend to the Ministry of Trade and Industry the exemption of certain categories of liner shipping agreements from section 34 of the Competition Act for five years. The CCS expects to make the recommendation by July, after public consultation. The order will take effect retrospectively from 1 January 2006.
