German carrier Hapag-Lloyd Container Line, usually one of the most profitable of all such companies, saw its operating margin decline from 10.6 to 8.6% after its takeover last year of the British-Canadian company CP Ships. CP contributed revenues of ?612M ($754M) for the last two months of 2005. But because of extraordinary costs in connection with the merger, the group's bottom-line results were dragged down by ?2.5M.
