One of the major sales this week has been two Goldbeam-controlled Panamax bulkers to Magna Marine. Both are 2005-bui Jin Sheng is a Tsuneishi Tess-76, while Jin Yang is an Imabari- 76. A very firm price of $39M each was agreed. No newbuilding contract price is on record, but London brokers suggest that they were ordered at about $25M each. There is a balance timecharter in the high teens attached to each vessel until end-2006. The Panamax market has eased back in recent weeks but appears to have bottomed. Certainly, figures on steel production underline the continuing strength in the market (see lead Markets story, p33). A high level of inspections is reported.
