OPEC countries have maintained the status quo. Oil prices fell this week to their lowest level since the end of March, partly in reaction to the cartel deciding to maintain production quotas unchanged. There was a caveat. OPEC reserved the right to cut output later in the year to limit any further falls in the oil price. But there is a consensus among the energy-watchers that the current price fall is a glitch.
