Since 1 September, shipping transiting the rivers Plate and Parana have 0.6m more water beneath their keels, but operators are paying for the privilege. As expected, some operators welcome the improvements, while others regret the added costs. Afrer completing the dredging, which took nine months, Buenos Aires-based Hidrovia received approval from Argentine authorities to raise its tolls by 36%, which international shipping will pay in dollars and cabotage vessels in pesos.
