A dozen shipwrecks along the navigational route in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore are to be removed in the next five years to reduce the risks to shipping, especially for deep-draught vessels. This project is one of six pro- posed plans (see box, top right) to improve safety, security and environmental protection in the two straits, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, after last week's IMO meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
