Violent clashes with police, a strike, UK motorways turned into car parks and, of course, delays costing ferry operators millions-it's all part of a normal week for the French port of Calais. Two hundred angry seafarers from ferry operator SeaFrance Clashed with police near the French port of Calais last week throwing port operations into chaos yet again. Frustrated by the adoption of a new international register on 23 March (see box, right), union members went on strike and attempted to occupy several berths and blockade the port. Riot police eventually used tear gas to disperse the striking French seamen at the approach to the Channel Tunnel on Tuesday but the damage was already done.
