Salcombe Bay, nestling fjord-like on England's South Devon coast, with its mild climate and stunning views, has long been a favourite destination for well-heeled yachting types and well-off families. That pedigree was extended by three thousand years in March, when divers discovered artefacts from one of Europe's earliest shortsea shipping trades. The items are Bronze Age equivalents of today's Rolex watch and iPod. Included were high-value bronze swords, axes, tools and a gold necklace, in a hint of a lively cross-Channel trade thriving even in such early times.
