Mexico bled when California consumed itself into an energy crisis some years ago. Mexico suffered when the natural gas pipeline that transported the fuel from the US was closed to keep more of the product within California.The boot is now on the other foot: the gas flow is northwards. The US is still creeping at a snail's pace towards piping natural gas from the Alaskan North Slope into the Lower 48. If that finally goes ahead, it will still provide just one-tenth of the US gas demand.
