On the fateful night in 1966 when Ted Arisen placed his first call to Knut Kloster, the Israeli entrepreneur was so broke he could not afford the long-distance charges, so Arison phoned Oslo from the home of his attorney. Arison was desperate: he had customers, but his ship had just been arrested, and Kloster had money and the Sunward - but no customers. Intrigued, Kloster boarded a plane to Miami to meet Arison. His ship soon followed. Norwegian Caribbean Lines was born, as Kristoffer Garin recounts in his new history of the cruise business, "Devils on the Deep Blue Sea".
