Italy's shipowners association Confitarma could soon split again into two separate divisions - as it was until the Seventies - if growing friction between the North and South regions is not resolved amicably. The latest convulsion to rock shipowners body Confitarma occurred in mid-June when nine association directors from around the Genoa area - the shipping pole that represents the North shipowners, including those of Leghorn and Savona - abruptly resigned from the Confitarma board, among them notables such as Pierluigi Foschi of Costa Crociere.
