The best way to overcome global port competition it seems is through co-operation. As if to illustrate this point, PSA International of Singapore and Hong Kong's biggest box port operator Hutchison Port Holdings have come together in Hong Kong. Their paths have not crossed so far though both have stakes in different ports in China. Hutchison has a stronger presence in mainland China with investments in booming Shanghai and Shenzhen. Both could compete for a share of the huge Yangshan deep-water port pie.
