The VLCC market is not only powering ahead but also dragging the Suezmax market up at last. Aframax vessels are having a patchy period, as are clean-product carriers. But it is the latter sector that has seen sales activity this week. Fairplay reported last week that the 2000-built Seabulk Reliant of 48,683d wt had been sold to an undisclosed Greek buyer. It now appears that this Greek buyer is in reality World Tankers. A Vietnamese buyer is reported to have purchased the June 2005-built Dionisos of 37,000dwt for $48M. The seller, Tsakos, is reported to have contracted the vessel from Hyundai-Mipo in 2003 for $26.5M. A similar-sized vessel, the 2003-built Nordafrika, is reported to have been sold to the Vietnamese oil company Petrolimex for $44M. In what used to be called the handy-sized market, the 2005-built chemical tanker Oak Galaxy of 19,990dwt is reportedly sold by Mitsui. The stainless-steel-tanked, IMO-1 vessel is reported to have changed hands at a firm price of$32.8M.
