In general terms, poaching is an activity that not many shipmanagers would readily admit to. However, with reports of a wide-scale officer shortage, it seems they will do whatever they can to get their ships fully crewed. A spokesman from Thome Ship Management frankly admits that they will poach seafarers if necessary, as there are always a percentage of officers who would like to change companies for a better situation. However, having said that, Thome also points out that training and upgrad- ing from their existing pool of officers is ultimately the best solution to the officer shortfall.
