Global steel production has now shown increases for three months in a row. The main driving force is still China where, traditionally, summer sees a slowdown. Some commentators remark that power stations are too busy driving air-conditioning units through the hot summer months to have any spare capacity for steel-making.The figures, however, appear to have proved them wrong. Yet now that the climate is becoming temperate or autumnal, depending whether you are talking about the south or the north of China, the furnaces and smelters will be running at full blast again.
