摘要

Given Australia's location, commodity exporters have always scrutinised its freight markets with special interest. Asia in general and China in particular continue to be the target for Australia's commodities, especially its booming exports of iron ore and coking coal. In 2005, it appears that China will account for more than one-third of the world's annual growth in major cargo volumes. At the Coaltrans Australia conference held in Brisbane last month, shipbroker SSY's Sydney-based partner David Schenk posed the question of whether the freight bull market will continue. He concluded that, after three consecutive years in which demand had risen faster than fleet supply, the situation had reversed in 2005.
