Both President George W Bush and departing US Federal Reserve guru Alan Greenspan have hammered away at the message: America needs more LNG import terminals. That need is particularly acute, they have said, in light of soaring winter heating bills following Gulf hurricanes. But at last week's LNG USA conference in Houston, the message from energy executives was that expansion of existing facilities, combined with new terminals already granted federal approval, should meet US import demand, at least through the next decade. The challenge will be supply, and ultimately prices, delegates heard. Marathon LNG's marketing president William Hastings told the conference that his company estimates that the US will develop 11.2Bn ft~3 a day of regasification capacity by 2015.
