The management at Irish Ferries (IF) has begun the long process of rebuilding relationships and credibility after finally settling its acrimonious staffing dispute. In the end, after frantic talks stretching through countless nights, a compromise was reached under which any workers employed by IF will be paid at least the Irish minimum wage. Also, IF workers who wish to stay with the company will receive the same pay and conditions as at present, even if the ferries end up operating under a non-Irish flag. But the company still realised savings of ?11M ($13.18M), approaching the ?15M that IF managers had sought, as more than 90% of the operator's 543 seagoing staff accepted a severance package.
