As the Baltic Exchange comes off the 'life support' of Income derived from its assets, the irony is that greater viability at the operating income level could signal another divisive debate on its future. The announcement last week of much-improved operating results (a smaller operating loss) presages the day when the Baltic Exchange will fully cover its costs at the day-to-day level, prompting chairman Peter Kerr-Dineen and the Board to head off the debate they fear could be coming on what to do with ￡30M ($54.9M) of assets once the Baltic can pay its way without this support.
