P&O'S review of the ferry sector, and the company's continuing place in it, is expected to be sent to directors in September, which would come at a crucial time. Fares on the shortsea Dover-Calais route - profitable until now - have been under tremendous pressure. Some observers believe that P&O will bite the bullet and transfer all its muscle into container terminal operations. Others were not convinced.
