The country is living a dangerous hour," warns Teodoro Pekoffi, a former economy minister who is now a prominent political analyst and director of Caracas newspaper Tal Cual. Pekoff is not alone in his sentiments, as Fairplay discovered in the capital recently when talking to political and economic players both for and against President Hugo Chavez. Indeed, as Venezuela counts down to the referendum to 'recall' Chavez and hold new elections - a referendum in which he and his leftist supporters (Chavistas) are calling for a 'no' vote - the uncertainty about the future remains pervasive. There is a sense that things must change, but no clear-cut answers on how it should be done.
