Instead of a late breakfast and an easy drive to Santander, he was faced with a 5am start to reach Bilbao for the alternative P&O service to Portsmouth. That's how he heard of the ship's latest troubles. And, as if the partial flooding of its engine room was not bad enough for Brittany Ferries - coming only a few months after teething trouble with the ship's bow doors - the quick repair work at Brest failed to solve the problems.
