Promises of a $ 17M government cash injection for Brazil's ailing port infrastructure might not be enough to save the country's current export boom from crippling congestion and rapidly diminishing capacity. "Everybody is talking about the infrastructure problems and the transport bottlenecks, but it has come too late - it should have happened sooner. By the time the projects are realised, Brazil will already lose out on many exports," said Dick Meurs, GM for P&O Nedlloyd's operations on South America's east coast. Last week, Brazil's minister for development Luiz Furlan announced an emergency financial package before the end of the year for five of the country's worst-hit ports.
