Over recent decades the chemical tanker industry has moved in tandem with the increase in scale of the chemical industry. Greater volume and an increasing variety of products have led to larger and more sophisticated parcel tankers. More than 40 years after the first sophisticated stainless steel parcel tankers were built, the transport of chemicals has become more of a commodity business than in those early days. The chemical parcel tanker industry has now reached a new phase and needs to respond to new developments. In this article we would like to discuss some of the trends and challenges that any quality parcel tanker owner such as Jo Tankers must face today.
